David Hampshire was born in Kingston,
Surrey and trained at the Italia Conti
Stage School. He started
his career aged 12, in 1966, when he landed the title role in
the BBC TV series Jennings. Since
then has played everything from Ugly
Sister in Panto to Jean
Valjean in Les Miserables at the Palace
Theatre, London.
David has also shot over 50 UK and foreign commercials.

In December 2003, David formed the British
English-Speaking Theatre, (BEST) Slovenia. He is staging Murder Mysteries in English and Slovene and has recently concluded their 2007 Look Back in Anger Theatre in Education tour. They are presenting Graham Swannell's witty and penetrating drama/comedy A State of Affairs in Ljubljana. This play will also be staged by our Spanish subsidiary, BestSpain, on the Costa Blanca, Spain in Autumn 2007. For further information please visit www.bestheatre.com

David Hampshire's first original short play An eye for an eye was awarded 1st prize in the awl Spring competition 2002, and his second entry, Briefcase Encounter, (in which he played the role of Alec Harvey and which he also directed) came first in the Autumn competition 2003. His short play Up Or Down? won the Summer 2004 competition. His sketch, ...Kin-Nel! was featured in the Spring 2005 competition. His recent sketch The Waitrose Wing won awl's "Another Fine Mess" competition in July 2007.
Four of his short plays have been runners-up in various awl competitions:
David's one-act play Christmas Presence received a rehearsed reading at awl in Feburary 2005. An earlier, shorter version of the play was read by the group in January 2003.
