Dermot Murphy took part in one of the Royal Court Young Writers courses and attended Michele Celeste’s classes on playwriting at the City Lit.  

Dermot speaks and writes French and Spanish and has made translations from both languages; he has also published short stories, articles and textbooks.

Dermot has written a number of plays, which include:

City of Rats
Miguel de Cervantes, held captive in Algiers by Barbary pirates,
collaborates with his master, Ali, and plots his next escape attempt
with Ali’s daughter, Zohra. Can he realise his ideal of liberty
and enable Zohra to live as she wants?

Last Christmas
He has plans about the best place to go, and she expects high
standards from her gentlemen; will the day live up to last Christmas?
