A Confession adapted from Maupassant by Martin Staniforth Read by awl on Monday 1st October 2007 A widow and her only daughter run a peasant farm in deepest Normandy (1880s). During milking one morning, Mother discovers that her unmarried daughter is pregnant - by the local carter/waggoner, a man with zero prospects. How are they to manage the situation, keeping him out of joining the family - and yet make the necessary ‘profit’ out of him … ?
