Following a petty theft from her garden, a mean old widow is persuaded by her servant-girl to get a guard-dog. The dog has to come free and be cheap to feed, so the servant girl comes up with a tiny lapdog, totally unfit for purpose. However, the dog is a friendly, engaging little chap and all goes well until the demand arrives in the post for a State dog-licence to be bought. The widow erupts and the dog has to be got rid of. How? Well, there is a deep, dry well down which he can be dumped …
